Equitable Stroke Control (ESC)

Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) sets a maximum number that a player can post on any hole depending on the player’s Course Handicap.  ESC keeps an exceptionally bad hole from causing great fluctuations in your Handicap Index.

Your actual score (with no adjustment for ESC) will be used to determine game results and prize money on league days.

However, for handicap purposes, after the round you are required to adjust your overall score if any hole score is higher than the maximum number you can post, according to the table below.    Enter your adjusted ESC score in the “TOT ESC” column on the league scorecard.

 9-Hole Handicap

Course Handicap (4 or less) – maximum double bogey
Course Handicap (5-9) – maximum 7
Course handicap (10-24) – maximum 8
Course handicap (15-19) – maximum 9
Course handicap (20 or more) – maximum 10
